My name is Thomas Tao Li, and I am a business journalist at Lianhe Zaobao, part of the Chinese Media Group at SPH Media. After graduating from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism with a major in Data Journalism, I have continued to apply data-driven methods within journalism. My training included proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, a solid foundation in statistical analysis, and skills in digital content creation, which encompasses website development and data mapping.

Before Columbia, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication Studies from HKBU with first-class honors and a Scholastic Award. In 2021, I worked for Southern Metropolis Daily in Guangdong, China, a publication known for its investigative reporting. In 2022, I interned at Caixin Global as a financial news reporter, where I focused on green finance and ESG investment in China. My work for the campus newspaper also earned the 'Best in Business News Reporting' in the 2022 China Daily Campus News Awards.

Beyond journalism, I am passionate about academic research, particularly in areas that connect media studies with social media and civic engagement, as well as computational social science methods. Embracing journalism as 'Social Science with Deadlines,' I continually strive to integrate these interests in a way that deepens my understanding and enhances my practical application in both fields.
